Io ho appena finito il mio primo anno all'uiversità (in modo splendido, oltrtutto) e partirò per NY il 10 luglio.

My dear Letizia, It is a pleasure to hear from you. It was no other than our great freedom fighter, Giuseppe Garibaldi, l’eroe dei due mondi, who told me about this network. He stayed with us—my old lady Ester and I—about one hundred and fifty years ago. I had him working in my candle factory. I lived on Staten Island then, but unfortunately, I was displaced when a group of lunatics decided to set up a museum in my house! I still lament the loss of my Beniamino Gigli records, which I inadvertently left behind in the basement. I now find myself living peacefully in a quiet part of Brooklyn. As you know, I recently turned 200 years old, and I think that the Internet is a nice pastime for a man my age. I like the idea of an Italian social network. You know, I was one of the first Italian Americans, got here back in 1850… my how the time flies! What other Italian Americans did we have around when I got here? Constantino Brumidi is about the only one who comes to mind; there were so few of us back then. Anyway, since my wife suffers from rheumatoid arthritis, there isn’t much for us to do but sit around and practice our English. I hope I can connect with other English speakers, other Florentines, and other Italian Americans. Regards, Meucci
